Colesent Cottages

Our Dog Policy

Cornwall in general and Colesent Cottages in particular are truly wonderful places to bring a dog on holiday. The Camel Trail at the bottom of the drive and the wide open expanses of sand at the coast* mean that dogs can really have a ball. Comments like "seems to have a new lease of life", "behaving like a puppy again", "won't want to go home" are routinely made by smiling owners. However, in order for all visitors to Colesent (with and without dogs), and us as owners, to interact happily together we do have a number of requirements that we ask you to stick to if you are bringing dogs with you on holiday.

Well behaved dogs are welcome free of charge as long as they are accompanied by considerate owners. In return for not charging for your dogs we expect, when its time for you to go home, to leave the cottage as if your pets had not been staying there. We are "time poor" when it comes to changeover days and we don't want to be faced with dog hair all over the carpets, furniture and bedding (yes, it has happened!). At the end of your stay you must be prepared to remove all trace of dog hair from the property before departure. This can't be achieved in 10 minutes just before you leave! Please allow time for a thorough hoover (Vacuum cleaners supplied). You must clean up dog mess as and when it happens. Young children play in all the cottage gardens and so it is imperative that this requirement is met. We also ask that you clean up any mess that occurs in the communal garden areas of Colesent and whilst walking down the drive to the Camel Trail. Please bring suitable pooper scoopers, bags etc.

Obviously we also welcome guests who do not own dogs and who may also be nervous of dogs. Therefore it is important that you are sure your dogs are well behaved enough so as not to impinge on other visitors enjoyment of their holidays. As owners you are expected to keep your dog/s under close control while staying at Colesent.  Please note that none of the cottage garden areas are dog secure. Dogs are not to be left alone in the cottages unless permission has previously been sought from ourselves and then only on the strict understanding that you believe that the dogs will not damage the cottage or cause a nuisance (Barking etc). You must take sensible precautions not to allow pets onto furniture or into the bedrooms.

Everybody joining you on your holiday must be aware of these requirements. If there is more than one dog owner in the party it is essential that he/she also feels that his/her dog is suitably well behaved and that they read and agreed to this dog policy.

I am sorry that these rules go on a bit but we really only want to welcome the type of dog owners who would comply with the above rules as a matter of course. If you think the rules are a bit fussy or you think you would have trouble meeting them then its probably best if you don't bring your dog to stay at Colesent. There is a place to sign at the end of the booking form to confirm that you have read this policy and are happy to comply with its requirements.

Swallow's Nest and Hollyhill Cottages - Two Dogs per cottage max - Swallow's Nest has a large tiled kitchen and Hollyhill has a separate utility/boot room which means that there is plenty of "safe" surface for when you need to dry off/clean up your dog after you return from a walk/day out etc

The Bull's House - One small or medium sized dog - The cottage is smaller and the front door gives directly into the main living area. For this reason we suggest the one dog limit. Please use the Conservatory doors to enter the cottage with your dog as there is laminate flooring in this area.

* There is a dog ban on some beaches from Easter Day to October 1st. Daymer Bay, Trebarwith Strand and Treyarnon, to name a few, allow dogs all year. We have a leaflet detailing all the dog friendly beaches in Cornwall. Just ask!

The amount of useable beach area varies according to whether the tide is in or out! Each cottage is supplied with a tide table booklet.
