How to find us/Arrival Details

Print off and bring with you!

Arrival Details. In the vast majority of cases we will be here to greet you as you arrive. Occasionally we may not be. We have 2 active secondary school age children and after they have waited (particularly on a Saturday) for us to prepare the cottages our rural location combined with surf club, sailing club, horse riding, friends etc can mean we are on taxi duty. Sometimes we might want to head off to the beach ourselves!! The notes below should help you find your holiday hideaway should you happen to arrive when we were not around. We would never leave you "unwelcomed" for more than an hour or two. In reality that gives you time to unpack, have your cream tea and work out what you might want to ask questions about. Our home phone will always divert to one of our mobiles so that we can give last minute directions or answer immediate concerns if required. Your cottage will be all ready for you with, as mentioned, scones on the table and cream and jam in the fridge!

Finding your cottage. After following the directions (below) you will arrive at the top of our drive. The drive bears to the left and you come to The Bull's House cottage first. If you are staying here please park on the granite chippings to the side of the cottage on your left. Carrying on past the Bull's House the drive bears left in front of our house (Barn with stained red door under large multipane window). Carry on past our house continuing to the left of a low building that has ventalation holes in the gable end (looks a bit like a dovecote but is in fact the lounge of Swallow's Nest Cottage!). Immediately on the right at the end of that building, set back up some steps, is Swallow's front door. If you are staying in Swallow's then it is OK to temporarily park here to unload. After unloading please reverse back up the drive a short distance and park to the right by the arched door that leads to Swallow's courtyard. If you are staying in Hollyhill then turn sharp right just past Swallow's front door in front of a 5 barred gate. Hollyhill's front door is up ahead of you. There is parking for at least 2 cars on the drive leading to the front door.

Directions to Colesent Cottages

Via Exeter Most Direct Route - From M5 Junction 31 the A30 continues westbound for over 60 miles as a dual carriage way. Just after the dualling stops the road passes within 3.5 miles of Colesent. The following instructions describe the route from the A30 to Colesent.

You need to take the THIRD right hand turn after the dual carriage way stops.  (You will know you are within 3 or 4 miles of the end of the dual carriage way when you pass the signs for "Jamaica Inn Museums")

The right turn is signposted "Blisland" and "St Breward". You come upon the turning quite quickly over the brow of a hill - so be prepared (There is a centre turning lane to use).

After turning right you are will come to a crossroads after about 1/2 a mile. Its a bit staggered but go straight across - sign posted St Mabyn. IGNORE ANY FURTHER SIGNS FOR ST MABYN!

Now you just have to follow this road for about 3 miles and you will come to our drive. It's very much a Cornish country lane and therefore quite twisty and turny. Ignore any junctions - just stay on the road - you will go through the hamlet of Tresarrett and over at least one small bridge. Just before you come to our drive you will go by Poley's Bridge car park (On the left) which is the start of the Camel Trail. There is a large Silver Fish sculpture in the car park although you may not see it a night. Next you will go over Poley's bridge its self. (It has metal side rails.)

Our drive is immediately left (50ft or so) after crossing the bridge. You will see the sign after you have turned in. The drive is quite narrow and half way up you will see a sign for Colesent Cottages pointing to the right. Follow that and the drive will lead you up and around, passed the Bull's House and then down to the front of our house and on to Swallows and Hollyhill.

Its a lot more straight forward than the above sounds. Honest!

The following "Via Exeter" directions miss out about 2 miles of county lanes and bring you down to our drive from the other direction so the you turn right into our drive just BEFORE going over Poleys Bridge. However both alternatives involve driving further and so take longer. Please feel free to ring before you leave to discuss if you want to!

Via Exeter, A30 to Bodmin.  Leave the A30 at the Bodmin exit.  Continue to follow Bodmin signs until obviously at the town centre and then follow signs for Wadebridge (you will pass ASDA soon after leaving the A30 - Maybe stock up on food and petrol?). Go through the town and onto A389 Wadebridge road.  After Dunmere, at the top of a hill fork right onto B3266 Camelford road, go through Longstone (Blink and you will miss it - just a small number of houses and then a disused petrol station).  Continue for approximately 1 mile and take the first right, signposted for St. Breward and Wenford.  Then at first junction turn right for Blisland.  Go down into the valley and just BEFORE the bridge turn right into our entrance, Colesent Cottages.

Via Exeter, A30 west bound. At Kennards House, Launceston, take the A395 for Camelford. Turn left onto the A39 still heading for Camelford.  Just beyond Camelford turn left on to the B3266 Bodmin road.  After 4 miles, on brow of hill take left turning for Blisland and The Camel Trail. At the crossroads continue straight on (ignoring the Camel Trail brown sign pointing to the left) until you go down into the valley and just BEFORE the bridge turn right into our entrance, Colesent Cottages, you will see the sign after you have turned in.

Via Bideford, A39 Atlantic Highway to Camelford. Just beyond Camelford town turn left on to the B3266 Bodmin road.

From Wadebridge (say you arrived early to miss traffic and went to Wadebridge/Rock/Polzeath first). Leave Wadebridge heading north on the A39. After about 2 miles turn right signposted St Mabyn (Just before the St Kew Harvest farm shop and golf course). Continue for 3 miles through the village of St Mabyn and on until the road meets the B3266 at Longstone (the first crossroads you come to where you have to give way). Turn left, continue for approximately 1 mile and take the first right, signposted for St. Breward and Wenford.  Then at the next crossroads (it is slightly staggered) turn right for Blisland.  Go down into the valley and just BEFORE the bridge turn right into our entrance, Colesent Cottages.

The villages of St. Tudy, St. Mabyn, Blisland and St. Breward have quaint grocery stores/post offices. All about 2 miles      away.

Asda Supermarket and Filling Station is 10 mins away by car.
